President BAI Introduces CAS’ Experience in Promoting National Development in AAAS Annual Meeting

BAI Chunli, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) attended the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and introduced to conventioneers CAS’ experience in making contribution to the country's development on February 22 local time. 

The Science Academy can better cope with its challenges only by serving the country more actively and comprehensively, according to BAI.

"The core mission of a science academy is to explore scientific truth on the basis of meeting the country’s demand,” said professor BAI.

CAS academicians have won 10 of China’s 12 top national scientific awards, 18 of the country’s 31 first prizes of National Prize for Natural Sciences and established 30 key academic subjects in the past ten years. CAS has also made great progress on manned space flight, lunar probing, Qinghai-Tibet Railway project, green printing with nano materials and quantum communication.

Professor BAI stated that CAS has been supporting the scientific projects of developing countries and kept providing joint scholarship for scientific projects in developing countries. CAS will strengthen efforts in establishing joint labs with other developing countries in later years.

AAAS is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. The annual meeting of AAAS is one of the largest scientific meetings held among the world with hundreds of topic seminars and forums attracting thousands of attendees from all over the world.
