The construction commencement ceremony for Heavy Ion Tumor Therapy Facility in Lanzhou (HITEL) was held in Lanzhou on January 30, 2010. LU Wucheng, the secretary of CPC Lanzhou Committee, ZHAN Wenlong, the vice president of CAS, and ZHAO Mantang, the chairman of the board from Gansu Shengda Co., Ltd. addressed the ceremony respectively. 　

On behalf of CAS, ZHAN Wenlong expressed his congratulations in his address to the experts working hard for the HITEL. He gave thanks to the local government for their support for the project. His appreciation also went to those who have made contributions to the clinical application of heavy ion therapy.

Heavy ion radiotherapy is one of the most effective treatment solutions acknowledged in the world. Insitute of Modern Physics, CAS has achieved remarkable results from the clinical treatment for 111 patients with tumor, which makes China the fourth country capable of performing heavy ion cancer therapy. The sophisticated research team, key technologies, and independent intellectual property rights have been realized through the construction of large-scale scientific projects and the clinical treatment, which indicates that the industrialization of heavy ion radiotherapy in China will be successfully realized. The cooperation between CAS, local government, and private enterprise enables the realization of HITEL. The construction of HITEL will make significant contributions to the development in medical industry, and benefit both the patients with tumor and the high-tech industry.　　

The secretary of CPC Gansu Provincial Committee, the governor of Gansu Province, the mayor of Lanzhou, the directors from CAS bureaus, the CEOs from the financial institutions and hospitals in Lanzhou, as well as the chairman of the board from Gansu Shengda Co., Ltd. also attended the ceremony.
