It is responsible for the management of the R&D activities of the CAS in high-technology areas, including electronics and information technology, advanced manufacturing and automation, optics and fine mechanics, advanced materials, chemistry and chemical engineering, energy, communication, space science and technology. A total of 30 CAS institutes are connected with the BHT. The main functions of the BHT are: to organize strategic studies and generate the development strategy for the CAS in the above areas; to map out relevant plans of scientific activities; to manage major research projects; and to supervise and promote the reform and development of relative CAS institutes.
